Partner Dave Stern was recently interviewed by Baseball Waiver Wire about professional athletes and workers’ compensation in light of a recent injury to Philadelphia Phillies prospect, Matt Imhof.
22-year-old Imhof, a 2nd round pick, suffered an accidental injury during a training exercise that impacts his ability to play professional baseball. Imhof explained via Instagram that a piece of metal hit him in the eye and the head, fracturing his nose and two orbital bones causing the loss of vision in his right eye.
Dave, a former Division I pitcher, explained that the Phillies are potentially liable for three compensation components including: the player’s related medical expenses, payment of lost wages, and a specific monetary award for the loss of Imhof’s eye.
