Pond Lehocky managing partner, Sam Pond, hosted a live Q&A on Facebook during Mental Health Awareness Month

In honor Mental Health Awareness Month, Pond Lehocky’s managing partner Sam Pond invited Dr. Leonid Polishuk for a discussion on mental and physical health during the pandemic for the firms sixth Facebook Live Question & Answer Session. Before kicking off the conversation, Pond opened by thanking emergency medical services providers in honor of National EMS Week.

“We recognize all our frontline workers; they’re the ones really dealing with the emergencies day in and day out. Thank you, not only during the time of this pandemic, but also each and every day as you help our citizens,” Pond stated. “We are going to be focusing on something different this week, and something that is very important right now in this pandemic. That is talking about your health and how the pandemic is effecting your health.”

Pond hosted the 45-minute live conversation where they discussed mental health, coping mechanisms, ways to stay physically active, and the importance of mindset. This morning’s Q&A can be viewed here.

“Emotions are a priority,” Dr. Polishuk shared. “In order to really be in charge of your mind, there are certain things I suggest you do on a regular basis, including 10 minutes of deep breathing exercises when you feel stressed.”

Mental health has long been associated with Social Security and long-term disability, but the impact of milder forms of stress are now making their way into the system. Coronavirus has caused an increase in many forms of mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. These struggles are not unique but are challenges we each must face. Pond Lehocky encourages every person to take care of their mental health. In such, we’ve created a deep breathing exercise for our community to utilize.

“I look at this moment of my life as an opportunity,” Dr. Polishuk closed the conversation with. “It teaches us simple lessons: eat better, exercise more, reach out to your loved ones. If we take this as a lesson and start practicing it, I think we are going to prevent many epidemics in the future. The question is, are we ready for changes?”

Pond is a founding partner of Pond Lehocky, a workers’ compensation and disability law firm in Pennsylvania. A former President of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, he served for six years as treasurer of that organization’s Committee for a Better Tomorrow. He has previously served in leadership roles for numerous organizations, including chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Section and member of the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners.

Dr. Len Polishuk is founder, physical therapist and nutritional counselor at Polishuk Wellness. Leonid’s treatment approach is eclectic, utilizing Kaitenbron, Paris, McKenzie, and Maitland manual techniques. He uses a “test, treat, retest” philosophy with focus on each treatment to determine the proper course of action in achieving maximum results with each patient. In addition to being a physical therapist, Leonid is also certified by the International Foundation for Nutrition and Health. He has an extensive background in wellness program management and clinical nutrition. Outside of the office, Leonid enjoys golfing, skiing, biking, fishing, and spending time with his family. He is a nationally ranked tennis player by the United States Tennis Association. He is also a master of sports in table tennis.

Pond Lehocky opened its doors in July 2010 with six attorneys and only 22 total staff members. Today, it is one of the largest workers’ compensation and Social Security disability law firms in Pennsylvania, helping workers with employment legal needs. The firm also has a robust referral network, helping Americans nationwide with all legal matters. Pond Lehocky has been honored with more than 60 awards over the past decade, being named Best Places to Work by The Philadelphia Business Journal six times and Top Workplaces by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
