Thrive Global shares exclusive Five Things You Need to be a Highly Effective Leader During Turbulent Times according to Pond Lehocky Giordano’s founding partner Thomas J. Giordano

Pond Lehocky Giordano’s founding partner, Thomas J. GiordanoEsq., joined Thrive Global for a conversation about being a leader who can endure the ebbs and flows of business during unprecedented times. The magazine’s goal is to help readers reconnect with themselves and learn techniques for maintaining balance in order to live their best life. Giordano’s article, Five Things You Need to be a Highly Effective Leader During Turbulent Times, shares valuable advice to other leaders to embody as our world continues to push forward through the ongoing pandemic.

“We are in the middle of a global pandemic, an unprecedented event that does not have a playbook or manual on how to handle it. I think I am handling it and leading like most people in my position are, by simply trying to do the best that I can,” Giordano said. “I do believe leaders have a responsibility during times of crisis to be as steady and positive as possible. How can you expect your team to be calm and do their jobs if their leader seems frantic, nervous, or unsure? A positive attitude is key. Whether you realize it or not, your team feeds off your energy. What we often fail to realize is that not everyone does feel positive and have a good attitude, especially during these difficult times, so it’s important that we identify those individuals and communicate with them. They should know you care and are available to them.”

Giordano grew up the son of a legal secretary and always knew he wanted to be part of the legal community. Since graduating with his law degree, he has dedicated his career to assisting disabled Americans. He leads Pond Lehocky Disability, the firm’s nationwide Social Security and disability insurance arm. The department has represented tens of thousands of disabled individuals in all 50 states.

Giordano sharethat he has learned it is important to, “be open to change, welcome it. It is the only way we improve. Constantly analyze and improve your operations. Your way is not perfect and there is always a better, more interesting, and novel approach out there.

“Growing your business is an exciting time, but there are common pitfalls that we all must be aware of,” Giordano explained. “First and foremost, if you have clients, make sure your service to them does not slip while growing. Second, don’t always assume that you can fix problems by adding more employees. This is a sure-fire way to add expenses before revenue. Lastly, constantly tweak and improve your operations.”

Giordano has also previously served on the board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania. A graduate of Rutgers University School of Law – Camden, Giordano currently serves as the chair of the Social Security Disability Committee of the American Association for Justice and as the co-chair of the Social Security Disability section of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
