Susan Nanes

Prior to joining Pond Lehocky, Susan Nanes spent seven years as a law clerk to former Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. During that time, she researched and assisted in drafting numerous majority, concurring, and dissenting opinions on a wide variety of subjects before the Court.  She joined our firm as its first full time appellate attorney in workers’ compensation and has won numerous victories before the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Nanes has an extensive educational background. She holds a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Barnard College of Columbia University, undertook graduate studies in History at Columbia University and Tulane University, and received her J.D. from Louisiana State University. While in law school, she was a senior editor of the Louisiana Law Review and received the Vinson & Elkins Award for Outstanding Student Comment.

She began her legal career as a law clerk for now-Justice Jefferson D. Hughes, III, currently of the Supreme Court of Louisiana, who was at that time an intermediate appellate judge. She next became the deputy chief law clerk to the late Judge Robert C. Daniels of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Nanes is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and Louisiana and is involved with the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, which raises money and funds legal aid organizations across the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
