Attorney Alexis Handrich to Continue Service with the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association as 2018 Co-Chair

November 11, 2016

Nov11 Attorney Alex Handrich

Pond Lehocky Associate Alexis Handrich has been appointed Co-Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association. She will take over her duties officially starting in 2018.

Alexis has served the Philadelphia Bar Association for eight years, the last three of which have been as the Legislative Liaison to the Executive Committee. As the Legislative Liaison, Alexis attended Legislative Liaison and Executive Board meetings of the Bar Association, and reported legislative updates impacting Philadelphia’s workers’ compensation law, including for the recently voted-down House Bill 1800. Alexis co-wrote a resolution to H.B. 1800, a piece of legislation attacking workers’ rights by limiting the treatments available to injured workers, that she would later present to the Bar Association and the Board of Governors. It was adopted by the Association and Board on March 31, 2016.

Alexis also served on the Arts in the Court Committee with the Workers’ Compensation Section, and helped with the commission of a local artist for paintings of major Philadelphia companies to commemorate the anniversary of the Pennsylvania’s Workers’ Compensation Act. The works also serve to illustrate the importance of labor in Philadelphia’s history. They can be seen hanging at the Philadelphia Workers’ Compensation Office of Adjudication at 8th Street.

Currently Alexis also serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, whose aim is to increase diversity in the legal profession to allow for better representation in the justice system. As part of the Committee, Alexis helped launch an initiative aimed at Philadelphia students interested in the legal profession with paid internships in the offices of Judge Thomas-Street and Judge Sarmina.

“I am honored to have been involved with the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association in many capacities over the years. I am excited to continue to serve the organization and injured workers as Co-Chair in 2018,” Alexis said of her new role.
