Partner David Stern weighs in on accident suffered by Phillies prospect Matt Imhof

Partner Dave Stern was recently interviewed by Baseball Waiver Wire about professional athletes and workers’ comp in light of a recent injury to Philadelphia Phillies prospect, Matt Imhof.

 

22-year-old Imhof, a 2nd round pick, suffered an accidental injury during a training exercise that impacts his ability to play professional baseball.  Imhof explained via Instagram that a piece of metal hit him in the eye and the head, fracturing his nose and two orbital bones causing the loss of vision in his right eye.   

 

Dave, a former Division I pitcher, explained that the Phillies are potentially liable for three compensation components including: the player’s related medical expenses, payment of lost wages, and a specific monetary award for the loss of Imhof’s eye.
