Attorney and veteran Nicholas Liermann was recently a guest speaker at the University of Pennsylvania’s Law School, as part of a panel entitled “Tales from the Front Lines: Service at Home and Abroad.” The panel was hosted by two student groups, the Penn Law Service Members and Veterans’ Legal Assistance Project (SVLAP) and the Penn Law Vets Club.  SVLAP is a student founded organization that provides targeted and useful resources to Philadelphia’s veterans and servicemembers in need of civil legal assistance, including pro bono work for veterans with economic hardship issues in partnership with the Philadelphia Bar Association Military Assistance Project (MAP).

During the panel, Nick discussed how military service shapes the lives of veterans, covering topics such as: personal reasons for enlisting, the unique challenges for veterans in today’s society, and how past service affects current career choice. He spoke alongside the District Manager for US Congressman Dwight Evans, Mr. Dennis Miller, and Assistant US Attorney Randy Hsia.

Nick served as a Captain in the U.S. Army as part of a Patriot Missile Battalion in the early 2000s, during which time he trained and was responsible for the welfare of 30 soldiers. In 2003, Nick was deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and has received several medals during his service, including the Army Commendation Medal. Since then, he has continued to serve as part of the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG).
