What is Roundup?

Monsanto's Roundup Weed Killer is the most commonly used herbicide in the world, with hundreds of millions of pounds of the chemical used every year in both professional and private settings.

What is the Roundup lawsuit?

The Roundup lawsuit came about as a result of injuries from exposure to the weed killer's active ingredient, glyphosate, which has been found to be a carcinogen that causes non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma as well as various sub-types of the cancer, including:

Mature B-cell lymphomas (about 85% - 90% of NHL cases)

Aggressive:

  • Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) (31%)
  • Lymphoblastic lymphoma (2%)
  • Primary mediastinal (thymic) large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL) (2%)
  • High-grade B-cell lymphoma with double or triple hits (HBL)
  • Primary DLBCL of the central nervous system
  • Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-associated lymphoma
  • Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) (can present as aggressive or indolent) (6%)
  • Burkitt lymphoma (BL) (2%)
  • Transformed follicular and transformed mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas
  • Primary cutaneous DLBCL, leg type
  • Primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma

Indolent:

  • Follicular lymphoma (FL) (22%)
  • Chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small-cell lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL) (6%)
  • Lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (1%)
  • Nodal marginal zone lymphoma (NMZL) (1%)
  • Marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) (8%)
  • Gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma (5%)
  • Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM)
  • Splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL)

Mature T-cell and natural killer (NK)-cell lymphomas (about 10%-15% of NHL cases)

Aggressive:

  • Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL), not otherwise specified (6%)
  • Lymphoblastic lymphoma (2%)
  • Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL)
  • Systemic anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) (2%)
  • Hepatosplenic gamma/delta T-cell lymphoma
  • Enteropathy-type intestinal T-cell lymphoma
  • Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL)
  • Primary cutaneous anaplastic large-cell lymphoma

Indolent:

  • Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) (4%)
  • Sezary syndrome (SS)
  • Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENK/TCL), nasal type
  • Mycosis fungoides (MF)
  • Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma

Who is at risk?

The most at-risk groups for exposure are landscapers, farm workers, garden center & nursery employees, and groundskeepers. Affected individuals have also successfully pursued claims due to exposure and usage that occurred at home.

Roundup settlements

Multiple jury verdicts have come back in favor of injured parties in the amounts of $2 billion, $289 million, and $80 million.
