Pond Lehocky Giordano’s client, Barbara Daquilante’s, life was torn apart on August 20, 2012. She was struck by a trash truck that injured both of her legs while she was on her way to work as a food service worker. Her life changed from that moment on.
“I had 16 surgeries,” she said. “I go to therapy twice a week. I go to the psychiatrist every other week. I try to get myself back together.”
Pond Lehocky Giordano’s latest campaign, Torn Apart, emphasizes how our clients’ lives are drastically altered after they suffer an injury. We are honoring their courageous stories in video and art as the firm strives to help them put their lives back together.
The firm commissioned British artist/illustrator Ian Wright to create three large-scale portraits for our new office using his innovative torn paper technique. Three clients who suffered serious workplace injuries were asked to participate: Barbara Daquilante, a food service worker; George “Moose” Beerley, heavy machine operator; and Francis Elliott, Parking Authority attendant. Each was interviewed by Wright and photographed in order to capture the essence of their stories. Working with the innumerable pieces of paper that filled their over-stuffed case files, Wright constructed multi-dimensional pieces of art that reflect how a life torn to pieces can be put back together again.
The project was featured on NewsWorks and WHYY’s The Pulse on Friday, January 30, 2015. Torn Apart highlights the real reason behind the work attorneys do – not the profit, but the client. Managing partner Sam Pond has always felt inspired by the fearlessness and courage of his clients.
