Lou D’Onofrio is an advocate.

He is a decision maker, a persuasive communicator, and a strategic thinker. He fights for his clients.

A kid from Suffolk County on New York’s Long Island, Lou moved to Philly to attend Temple Law where his career in the courtroom began. By design, he has spent a career in the courtroom and has taken dozens of cases to verdict before juries and judges in multiple states. That career began in earnest with a Philadelphia civil defense jury verdict in his client’s favor one year after graduating law school at the age of 24. Along the way, he has secured victories for civil plaintiffs and criminal defendants—as well as civil defendants and the government.

Lou has spent ten years of his career as a prosecutor. He proudly served as a Senior Deputy Attorney General in the Delaware Department of Justice, where he served in leadership as the Assistant Unit Head for White Collar Crimes in the Fraud Division, as well as a Deputy in the Wilmington and New Castle County felony trial units in the Criminal Division. He received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award for his work along with the Delaware Division of Revenue in obtaining the first State Tax Fraud conviction by jury verdict in over a decade in Delaware, amongst other prosecutions. As State Tax Crime Prosecutor, his role involved policy setting statewide jurisdiction in coordination with multiple agencies. Lou also served the citizens of New Jersey as an Assistant Prosecutor in Burlington County. He is proud of his government service as well as the men and women in law enforcement with whom he worked.

A justice seeker, Lou has long known the high caliber legal work that Pond Lehocky provides. Along with his wife, Heather K. D’Onofrio, Esquire, Lou founded his own law firm, which served as counsel to the injured, the accused, and national firms in high stakes, complex mass tort litigations. During a time when depositions were mostly in person, Lou is proud to have conducted depositions in multiple time zones in a single day. His peers have recognized him as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star and a Delaware Today Top Lawyer. He has enjoyed providing legal commentary for television news and instruction in the classroom as adjunct faculty.

Throughout all the above, Lou has sought endurance. He believes deeply that perseverance is a virtue, and that those lessons and skills translate to his work—that it makes him a stronger advocate and a more dimensional attorney.

Lou is a veteran ultrarunner who has finished over nineteen 100-mile races to date. He has enjoyed the support of multiple companies as a sponsored athlete. He earned that role through hours of effort on trails and roads across the country. His 2016 50k was recognized in UltraRunning Magazine as a Top 100 North American time. He has finished the esteemed Bear 100 miler through the Wasatch Mountains. Lou has run multiple Boston Marathons with a marathon personal best of 2:57, Ironman Lake Placid, and locally, is an overall champion of the Labor Pain 12-hour trail race in Reading, Pennsylvania, running over 100 kilometers in that time. He is an avid skier and hiker who has summited multiple 14,000-foot mountains. He has been privileged to participate in multiple world speed records on the Appalachian Trail. A nearly full resume of his endurance career can be viewed on ultrasignup.com or athlinks.com.

Lou has sought excellence in every aspect of his life. He is a member of the Yale University School of Management Executive MBA Class of 2028. He graduated cum laude from Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law in 2003.  While at Temple Law, he was a published member of the Executive Committee of the Political and Civil Rights Law Review. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Rhode Island where he was a Centennial Scholar, having double majored in Political Science and Philosophy with first year course work in Engineering.

When not practicing law or running, you might find Lou cheering for his kids. Lou is proud to be his daughter’s number one fan with Drew University Field Hockey, and his son’s number one fan with NXT lacrosse. Lou and his wife are also proud parents to a rescue Labrador retriever who loves spending time with the family in suburbia, the mountains, and the shore.

Lou has never been afraid of big challenges. He has sought them. He welcomes them. That tradition will never end—it continues at Pond Lehocky.
