Temple University Gallery of Success

Samuel H. Pond is the Managing Partner of Pond Lehocky Stern Giordano, the largest workers’ compensation law firm in Pennsylvania and one of the largest in the country. Pond Lehocky has the most workers’ compensation specialists in the Commonwealth. Mr. Pond graduated from Temple University School of Law in 1984, and has concentrated his practice in workers’ compensation litigation since 1986. He has tried thousands of cases on behalf of injured workers. His advocacy for his clients has resulted in some of the largest results in Pennsylvania and the nation.

Mr. Pond attributes much of his successful legal career to his time at Temple University. He has given back to the School of Law. In the Fall semester of 2017, Mr. Pond was appointed an Adjunct Professor at Temple’s Beasley School of Law where he teaches a class on workers’ compensation. Mr. Pond shares both the substantive and procedural aspects of workers’ compensation law with the students, as well as all aspects of the profession of law. Pond Lehocky has also created The Legal Studies Office at Drexel’s LeBow School of Business, where Mr. Pond received his finance degree.

Mr. Pond is a strong believer in investing in the next generation of legal leaders, which is why he and Partner Jerry M. Lehocky established The Pond Lehocky Trial Advocacy Scholarship. Since 2013, Mr. Pond and Mr. Lehocky have been providing this opportunity to Temple law students so that they can continue the law school’s long and renowned tradition of trial advocacy.

Mr. Pond also created a thriving internship program for law students at Pond Lehocky with his partners, which includes Beasley Law School students every year. It offers students hands-on experience in a professional legal environment and with a culture centered on client service and using the Firm’s resources to make a difference.

2018 marks the 30th anniversary of Mr. Pond practicing as a workers’ compensation claimant attorney, an accomplishment that was made possible through the education and resources provided by Temple Beasley School of Law.

OTHER NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Mr. Pond is a member and past president of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and was the longest serving treasurer of the organization’s political action committee, the Committee for a Better Tomorrow. Mr. Pond is the past chair of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association, past chair of its Education and Ethics Committee and its Workers’ Compensation Section Executive Committee. Mr. Pond was appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to serve on the Board of Law Examiners. He also served on the Board of The Pennsylvania Federation of Injured Workers, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Charitable Foundation. Mr. Pond was appointed by the Speaker of the House of Pennsylvania to the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Board. He is a current Chairman of the Pennsylvania Alliance and on the board of the USC Shoah Foundation’s Next Generation Committee. He sits on and has served on numerous other boards. Mr. Pond is also president of Union Services Access, a legal consulting services network for unions and their members.

Mr. Pond’s Martindale-Hubbell rating concerning Legal Ability and Ethical Standards has been given the highest grade. Mr. Pond was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® from 2007-2018. Mr. Pond has also been selected for inclusion in the Super Lawyers® Top 100 in Pennsylvania and Top 100 in Philadelphia lists for 12 consecutive years.

Through lectures and seminars, Mr. Pond educates union members and employees throughout the region on their rights under the Workers’ Compensation Act. His charitable contributions are extensive and focused on children and education; they include the Union Services Access Scholarship Fund, The Pond Lehocky Trial Advocacy Scholarship. He also created the Marie Pond Scholarship Fund in honor of his mother, which is a yearly scholarship awarded to a member of the Torresdale Boys Club. He is the current host of the radio show “Legal Eagles,” a one-hour weekly show to educate listeners about the law.
