Three Things You Might Not know About Sexual Harassment in the Age of #MeToo

Three Things You Might Not know About Sexual Harassment in the Age of #MeToo.

  1. Sexual harassment is a form of gender discrimination. It violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which applies to employers with 15 or more employees.
  1. Most sexual harassment goes unreported. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reported in June 2018 that more than 80 percent of individuals who experience harassment in the workplace never file a formal complaint and that three out of four individuals do not even raise the matter internally.
  1. It is illegal for your employer to retaliate, even if you can’t prove harassment. Your employer cannot fire you or otherwise retaliate against you for reporting harassment, even if your claim is ultimately unsuccessful.
