On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, a parking garage collapsed in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia. One construction worker was rescued from the rubble and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. He died from his injuries shortly after. Action News has reported that two others may still be trapped beneath the debris. First responders and rescue crews are still on the scene and actively searching the site.
The collapse occurred in an active construction zone of the seven-level parking garage, which is intended for use by employees of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The construction of the parking garage has garnered criticism due to concerns over increased traffic and pollution.
