Grays Ferry, Philadelphia Parking Garage Collapses

Our thoughts are with the construction workers, their families, and everyone impacted by the Grays Ferry parking garage collapse.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, a parking garage collapsed in the Grays Ferry neighborhood of South Philadelphia. One construction worker was rescued from the rubble and transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. He died from his injuries shortly after. Action News has reported that two others may still be trapped beneath the debris. First responders and rescue crews are still on the scene and actively searching the site.
The collapse occurred in an active construction zone of the seven-level parking garage, which is intended for use by employees of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The construction of the parking garage has garnered criticism due to concerns over increased traffic and pollution

As of Thursday, April 9, two people remain unaccounted for at the site of the collapse. Engineers have been coordinating with the search efforts to ensure that the unstable structure is safe for rescue workers to enter.
CHOP provided the following statement to FOX 29:
“Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is aware of a serious construction incident at our parking garage construction site on 3000 Grays Ferry Avenue in Philadelphia. We are prioritizing the safety of the construction workers at this time and working closely with the City of Philadelphia and our construction partners. We will share additional information as it becomes available.”
