Apply now for Pond Lehocky’s annual scholarship aiding those affected by work injuries

Pond Lehocky Giordano is again offering its annual scholarship to aid injured workers and their family members, friends and colleagues. The $5,000 annual scholarship is open to everyone currently accepted to or enrolled in higher education and is not limited to any particular university.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have some personal connection to a work-related injury. They are asked to submit a 500-word essay on an experience they have had with a work injury, how the experience impacted them and how this scholarship will be helpful. The work injury could be one they experienced, or one experienced by a friend, family member or colleague.

Applicants must also submit an acceptance letter or proof of enrollment and provide two letters of recommendation from professional or academic sources.

Delaware State University nursing student Ariyanna Bryant won the 2019 Pond Lehocky Scholarship. In the essay she submitted, she described how she has relied on her paternal grandmother, Sharon Bryant. Sharon has been Ariyanna’s primary guardian since the death of Ariyanna’s father 10 years ago.

Sharon was a teacher for the Philadelphia School District for 25 years. She’s been out of work and on workers’ compensation for a year with back pain and upper respiratory issues.

Education is expensive even when both parents are healthy and able to earn a living. When a work injury occurs, it can have a catastrophic effect on a family’s educational hopes and dreams. Therefore, the firm’s partners started the annual Pond Lehocky Scholarship.

With the scholarship, Pond Lehocky reaffirms its commitment to provide holistic care to injured and disabled workers that extends beyond the legal process. Providing a scholarship to those impacted by work is another way to ensure that work-accident victims and their families are made whole again.
