Mark Leonetti’s story begins long before he became a lawyer. It begins in Italy, with generations of stonemasons whose livelihoods were built through hard work, skilled hands, and an unwavering commitment to family. Those same values continue to guide Mark today as he represents injured workers, accident victims, and their families throughout New Jersey.
In 1892, Mark’s grandfather, Giambattista Leonetti, was the first to emigrate from Italy to settle in Camden, New Jersey. Although trained as a stonemason, he found work at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation at the Camden waterfront, where he helped build America’s growing naval fleet. When World War I began, he was so grateful to be in America and for the opportunities it provided him that he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army despite not yet being a United States citizen. After the war, he returned to his trade as a stonemason, became a proud Naturalized US citizen in 1920, and passed the craft on to his three sons, including Mark’s father, who became a respected small general contractor in South Jersey.
Mark, the youngest of five children, grew up in a modest home in Glendora, New Jersey, where his parents instilled the importance of hard work, personal responsibility, and family. Like his older brothers, Mark spent his summers from age 12 all the way through his college years performing construction labor: digging ditches, pouring footings, carrying materials, and learning firsthand the physical demands faced by working men and women every day.
Fast forward to today, and Mark has been practicing law for over 33 years, specializing in handling New Jersey workers’ compensation matters. He helps injured workers and the families of those killed at work, as well those injured victims of automobile accidents and other personal injury claims, get justice and the maximum compensation allowed under the law.
Mark started his legal career as an associate trial attorney at a prestigious Haddonfield insurance defense firm. For seven years, he successfully tried dozens of personal injury cases in the Superior Court of New Jersey on behalf of a major automobile insurance carrier, not only helping to hone his litigation skills in the courtroom, but perfecting his ability to identify, dissect, and defeat the injury claims of plaintiffs and their poorly prepared lawyers.
But the realization that legitimately injured victims can be denied the benefits that the law entitled them to simply because they chose the wrong lawyer weighed heavily on Mark’s sense of fairness and justice. This would later became the foundation of Mark’s life-changing decision 25 years ago to switch sides and use his expertise to strategically counsel, protect, and tirelessly pursue justice and compensation for his injured clients against the internal workings of the powerful insurance companies that he knew all too well. For the past eight years, Mark has been a partner at his boutique firm, Cuneo & Leonetti in Collingswood, New Jersey, where Mark solidified his reputation as a distinguished and highly respected attorney in his fields.
To date, Mark has successfully represented thousands of injured workers and their families in New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Court, obtaining millions of dollars in settlements for injuries ranging from simple strains and sprains to fractures and surgeries to loss of hearing and vision to loss of limb and life. He has recovered lifetime weekly disability payments and large lump sum settlements to the injured worker and the families of those tragically killed on the job.
As an experienced, aggressive, and polished trial attorney, Mark’s relentless pursuit of justice has also resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation for his clients in matters that fall under the jurisdiction of New Jersey’s Superior Court for injury or deaths caused by the negligence or fault of others such as automobile accidents and premises liability cases. Among the substantial results he has achieved are a $2.2 million settlement for a client injured on a defective staircase, $1.58 million and $1.2 million for clients injured in seemingly minor motor vehicle accidents, and a $750,000 settlement in slip-and-fall litigation.
As a personal injury and New Jersey Workers’ Compensation attorney, Leonetti has been awarded entry in “Super Lawyers,” a distinction given only to 5% of lawyers in New Jersey, recognizing those who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and outstanding professional achievement.
When Pond Lehocky made the decision to open their doors in New Jersey and approached Mark to help establish an elite level of legal representation never before seen in this state, Mark eagerly accepted his role as Managing Partner of New Jersey Auto and Workers’ Compensation. Mark is energized to help Pond Lehocky not only mimic the success the firm has seen in Pennsylvania, but to use cutting-edge technology and legal ingenuity combined with old-fashioned core values and hard work to create a standard of unparalleled legal representation for the injured.
Mark earned his undergraduate degree in English from Rutgers University, and his law degree from Widener University School of Law. During law school, he held internships with the New Jersey Superior Court Judge James Rafferty and the New Jersey Appellate Division Judge Virginia Long, who was later appointed to the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
Mark has been a long-time member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New Jersey Association for Justice, and the Camden County Bar Association.
Mark is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals (Third Circuit), and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mark resides in Haddonfield, New Jersey, with his wife and two college age daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys summer weekends at the New Jersey Shore, working on his golf game, playing ice hockey, and using his knowledge of construction to do handiwork in and around his home.
