The holiday season is a time of generosity and gratitude, and at Pond Lehocky Giordano, our 25 Days of Giving campaign embodies this spirit. This initiative allows us to partner with 25 incredible charitable organizations, extending our commitment to community engagement beyond the courtroom. For a full list of those organizations, check out our introductory blog for our 8th annual 25 Days of Giving. Today, we’re thrilled to highlight the fourth set of five charities from this year’s campaign: Trash2Treasure, Bethesda Project, Gunz Down Gloves Up, Rock to the Future, and Make-A-Wish Michigan.
These organizations showcase diverse missions and innovative approaches, all working tirelessly to make a difference. Let’s dive deeper into the transformative work they’re doing.
1. Trash2Treasure: Turning Waste into Opportunity
Founded by former sanitation worker and activist Terrill Haigler, known as “Ya Fav Trashman,” Trash2Treasure is revolutionizing how communities in Philadelphia view waste and sustainability. This nonprofit empowers neighborhoods by organizing cleanup events, educating residents on recycling practices, and advocating for better conditions for sanitation workers.
Through collaborations with local groups like the Philadelphia Theatre Company, Trash2Treasure fosters environmental stewardship and community pride. Their mission goes beyond cleaning streets—it’s about uncovering the inherent value in people, places, and things, transforming lives and neighborhoods in the process. By donating, you help this organization sustain its vital efforts to create a greener, more sustainable Philadelphia.
2. Bethesda Project: A Lifeline for Philadelphia’s Homeless
Since 1979, Bethesda Project has been a cornerstone of hope for individuals experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia. With 12 locations across the city, Bethesda Project provides emergency shelter, housing, and supportive services that help guests regain their dignity and independence.
Their unique Housing First approach ensures that individuals face minimal barriers when accessing services, allowing them to embark on a personalized journey of healing at their own pace. With individualized case management and a Theory of Change model designed to end chronic homelessness, Bethesda Project stands as a beacon of compassion and innovation in addressing this critical issue.
3. Gunz Down Gloves Up: Fighting Violence with Empowerment
Gunz Down Gloves Up takes a unique approach to combating gun violence by providing free boxing classes for youth and adults in Philadelphia. This nonprofit offers a safe and structured environment where participants learn self-defense, discipline, and conflict resolution skills, promoting nonviolence and personal growth.
By shifting the mindset of young individuals away from the glorification of guns, Gunz Down Gloves Up fosters healthier coping mechanisms and community engagement. Their programs inspire participants to channel their energy positively, helping to build a safer, more connected community. Supporting this initiative means investing in a future where conflict is resolved with respect and understanding.
4. Rock to the Future: Transforming Lives Through Music
Rock to the Future (RTTF) empowers Philadelphia’s youth with free, student-driven music programs designed to foster positive development and lifelong well-being. From songwriting to live performance, students build skills in creativity, collaboration, and self-expression, all while gaining access to meals, transportation, and academic support.
RTTF’s trauma-informed and restorative practices make it a critical resource for under-resourced neighborhoods and juvenile justice facilities. The program also offers pathways to professional careers through mentoring, internships, and scholarships. By reducing violence and fostering community pride, RTTF’s impact resonates far beyond the music room, proving that the power of music can change lives.
5. Make-A-Wish Michigan: Bringing Dreams to Life
For children battling critical illnesses, a wish come true can be a turning point. Make-A-Wish Michigan has been making these transformative experiences possible for 40 years, granting life-changing wishes that inspire hope and strength. From dream vacations to once-in-a-lifetime adventures, these wishes bring joy and resilience to families during their darkest days.
With the help of dedicated volunteers and donors, Make-A-Wish Michigan continues to provide hope and optimism to children across the state. Supporting this organization means giving children the courage to fight harder and envision a brighter future.
