These insurance companies cover telemedicine during the pandemic

TELEMEDICINE is the remote diagnosis and treatment of patients by means of telecommunications technology. It has become necessary to treat every day medical issues during the coronavirus crisis, which has drastically changed the landscape of our healthcare system.  A routine office visit to the doctor is now done via video chat instead of in-person.  

Thanks to the CARES Act, insurance companies are now required to cover the costs of all COVID-19 related treatment including testing; but what are insurance companies doing to cover the cost of necessary non-coronavirus treatment during the pandemic, like telemedicine? 

The following providers are currently covering telemedicine for members: 

• AmeriHealth of PA and New Jersey  
• Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey 
• Humana 
• Independence Blue Cross
